Vladimir Putin is no fan of the “Arab Spring”, evident by his address to the UN. Putin, who is allies with Assad, and Russia who has interests in Syria as a strategic location, has moved his military to the Syrian border. His speech pointed out his take on the Arab spring, and he believes the Obama “doctrine” in the Middle East has left a vacuum that ISIS is filling. Surprisingly, his take on the Arab Spring is much aligned with how many American conservatives view it.

Definitely agree with the first part of your comment. Since Truman crucified MacArthur in Korea, Johnson tried to fight a “sanitary” war in Vietnam, George Bush pulled the reins on Schwarzkopf, and Obama pulled the rug out in Iraq, US political decisions outweigh military. Our leaders have lost the will to win. War is a messy, savage business and should only be taken as a last resort. But once the sword is drawn, it should not be returned to the scabbard until the enemy is completely crushed. Otherwise it’s a waste of blood and treasure. Churchill, Roosevelt and Truman understood this.
As to not our continent, I’m inclined to agree – or maybe wish I could agree. The mid-east has been in flames for well over 2,000 years. The bitterness and hate runs very deep. Largely because domestic carbon fuel extraction has been restricted, we’ve been dependent on mid-eastern oil. We need not – and should not – be. We could glut the market and undercut the revenue that fuels Islamic conflict and terrorism. We should make it clear that our sword and shield is over the only democracy in the area, and anyone attacking invites a terrible – out of proportion – massively destructive retribution, and sail off into the sunset. If only we had a leader with the guts to say it and mean it…
