President Trump Comes Forward With Message Regarding Removal of Confederate Monuments

Weak-kneed Republicans and business leaders have thrown the president under the bus for his statements calling out extremists and violence in both the alt-right and alt-left. They’ve bowed to the pressure of the liberal media and caved in to the demands of left-wing extremists.

With friends like that, who needs enemies? Fortunately, President Trump has a backbone of steel and doesn’t bow to pressure readily.

This morning, the president took to Twitter to put his perspective on the current controversy.

Sad to see the history and culture of our great country being ripped apart with the removal of our beautiful statues and monuments. You can’t change history, but you can learn from it. Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson – who’s next, Washington, Jefferson? So foolish!”

Yesterday he was asked if the statue of Robert E. Lee in Charlottesville should be taken down. He replied, “I would say that is up to a local town, community or the federal government, depending on where it is located.”

That kind of common sense had gone out the window in Washington D.C. until President Trump showed up. Heaven forbid towns would have a process to evaluate and decide how to deal with the situation, instead of bowing to the demands of an angry, howling mob.

A recent PBS poll showed that 62 percent of Americans believe “Confederate statues should remain in place as historical symbols.”

Leftists don’t value history if it doesn’t agree with their warped ideology.

The most telling point President Trump is making is this: if society keeps bowing to the pressure to eradicate Confederate memorials, where does it end? Should all mentions of Woodrow Wilson be eliminated because he was a racist? Are all historical figures going to be judged by current standards instead of the time in which they lived?

That type of revisionism is simply un-American. The United States is one of the few countries that’s preserved its history, warts and all, so present generations can learn from the past and avoid its pitfalls.

By eliminating the past, society gets closer to the unreal totalitarian world George Orwell wrote about in his classic work, 1984. Orwell specifically wrote about the leftist phenomenon occurring today.

President Trump deserves credit for having the courage to buck the current politically correct climate and simply do what he thinks is the right thing to do.
