Should you not have a Lifestraw, which is probably the best personal, portable water filter on the market, here is a simple water filtration system for you hikers, preppers, and anything in between.
To match the video you will need:
– Plastic water bottle
– fine sand and course sand
– charcoal (most important)
– a couple rubber bands
– cloth
plant some hemp — you might need it to remove radiation from water
We have a life straw. .. something good to invest in. Just in case.
I prefer this: http://sawyer.com/products/sawyer-mini-filter/ although I still have my life straws that have not worn out yet 🙂

I got the sawyer for $29 at dicks sporting goods

Do these work for salt water
It was found that simply straining your water though cloth significantly reduces your chances of getting cholera. Because most of the bacteria that cause cholera are riding on larger organisms.
The life straw is only useful if you have an immediate water source. That is unless your okay with backwash.
It’s always a good idea to boil it anyways. Plenty of bacteria will get through a cup of sand. Though this depends on how nasty your water source is.
