The Greek manuscripts use specific words to distinguish between brothers and cousins. In Matt 13:55-56, Jesus is identified as “the Carpenter’s son”, and Mary is identified as his other. In the same verse, James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas are identified as Jesus’ brothers (blood brothers) not cousins, not spiritual “brothers in Christ”, but literal brothers born of Mary. The SAME Mary that bore Jesus. Jesus’ sisters (blood kin sisters) are also mentioned. In Matt 12:46, while Jesus is inside teaching, someone tells him that his mother and his brothers are standing outside seeking to speak with him. Again, the Greek word is literal brothers, not the word for “cousin” that appears in Col 4:10. The direct references to Jesus’ brothers born of Mary continue in John 2:12, John 7:1, John 7:5, Acts 1:14, and Gal 1:19. Your assertion that the terms for cousins and brothers are interchangeable are clearly mistaken.
