Then there was the alleged bombshell that the Pope went a step further when he discussed the “failure” of Jesus’ life and the “failure of the cross.”

Which is exactly the point the pope was making. God’s use of the crucifixion is successful, not a failure as it might be viewed from merely a human’s perspective. Good for you for pointing out further what the pope was talking about!
