It is one of the most telling symptoms of these outrageous times that we have got to the point of applying the label “conservative” to Gerhard Mueller. It is a testament, if nothing else, to the complete inutility of the term, its effective meaninglessness. One is a “conservative” only and exclusively depending upon whom one is standing next to. We are at the point where anyone standing an inch to the right of Nancy Pelosi (to put it in American terms) one is instantly (and rather desperately) labelled a “conservative”.
Louis Verecchio and I do not agree on everything, but he seems to be the only other one who sees through this absurd farce in which Mueller the Liberation theologian who waffled and equivocated his way through this appalling crisis is not called a heroic “conservative”. The fact is that Francis will not tolerate dissent of even the most mild, polite and diffident kind. He’s a Stalinist/Peronist whose answer to everything is “submit”. He doesn’t care one whit which ideology a subordinate adheres to. The first, last and only criterion is absolute, abject submission.
Until Catholics start understanding this, and stop trying to slap their absurd black and white, Starwarsian, left/right paradigm onto the situation, they will continue to grossly underestimate the threat.
