Poll: One Out of Four Muslim’s in Britain would Hamper Police Investigations into Terror Plots

The man who made the term ‘Islamophobia’ popular, Trevor Phillips, the former head of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, said the survey conducted by ICM Unlimited for Channel 4, was extremely worrying in regard the Muslim population living in the United Kingdom.

In Britain, Islam is the second largest religion based on the results of the U.K.’s 2011 census, making the Muslim population at that time 2,706,066, ~4.5% of the total population.  The What British Muslims Really Think study found that within this population, one in four (23%) reported that “they wanted to see the implementation of Sharia Law in some of the areas of Britain.”

Two thirds say they would not choose to inform police about terrorist plots if they had prior knowledge.  A further 46 per cent said they would talk to the person directly about the terror plot in an attempt to dissuade them, while 37 per cent said they would not inform the police, but would look for help elsewhere.

The poll also found that half of British Muslims think homosexuality should be made illegal. That figure compares to a general population figure of 5 percent in Britain. Almost half (47%) also said they did not agree that it was acceptable for a gay person to become a teacher, compared with 14% of the general population.

Over 20 percent did not condemn stoning adulterers, while almost a third (31%) want polygamy (having multiple wives) to be made legal, compared with 8% of the wider population.

Phillips pointed out that the “centre of gravity of the British Muslim opinion, on issues like family, gender, sexuality, questions about violence and terrorism and attitudes toward the Jews, is a great distance from the centre of gravity of everyone else’s opinion.”

“One in six Muslims say they would like to live more separately, a quarter would like to live under sharia law. It means that as a society we have a group of people who basically do not want to participate in the way that other people [do].” Phillips added.

The left has taken this study and tried to quash the results saying that poll as “skewed” and “divisive” or that those polled were from poorer areas and thus more conservative in their beliefs. Irregardless of what the left feels about the results, the facts cannot be ignored.
