Police Guilty of Lynchings?

With the county sheriff calling the incident a “tragic incident”, many people are calling foul play. Why would a woman with so much going for her life suddenly kill herself over a traffic infraction? According to NBC:

“those who knew Bland don’t believe she would have taken her own life. She had recently moved to the area, about 50 miles nortwest of Houston, and was due to start a new job Wednesday as a college outreach officer at her alma mater, Prairie View A&M University.

Waller County District Attorney Elton Mathis also questioned the circumstances surrounding Bland’s death.

“I will admit it is strange someone who had everything going for her would have taken her own life,” he told NBC station KPRC in Houston. “That’s why it’s very important a thorough investigation is done and that we get a good picture of what Ms. Bland was going through the last four or five days of her life.”

“If there was something nefarious, or if there was some foul play involved, we’ll get to the bottom of that,” Mathis added.

In response to the incident, many civil rights activists have taken to social media to voice their outrage at the death, calling for justice. The hashtags “#JusticeForSandy” and “#WhatHappenedToSandyBland” almost immediately began to appear on social media sites like Facebook or Twitter.

What makes the situation even more peculiar is the fact that another woman was involved in an eerily similar incident very soon following Bland’s death. Alabama teen Kindra Darnell Chapman was found dead in her jail cell only about an hour after her arrest over the theft of a cell phone. Just like with Bland, authorities are saying that this teen hanged herself over the punishment, but many are saying that this is very unlikely what occurred.

What do you think happened? Do you think the two deaths are just unlikely coincidences, or do you think something much more tyrannical occurred?
