Paul Ryan’s Spending Bill Allows Funding for Border Security…in Middle East

It seems like Speaker Paul Ryan comes from a different political party than President Trump. Whether he thinks what he is doing is necessary to retain a Republican majority in the House, or whether he truly opposes the president on crucial issues, the conflict is obvious. And it does neither the president nor the Republicans any good at all.

The spending bill to come before the House is a monster of over 1,000 pages. Yet none of those pages are dedicated to supporting one of the president’s signature initiatives — the border wall with Mexico. Instead, the speaker’s bill funds border security between Jordan and Lebanon.

House Republicans released its $1.1 trillion 1,665 page spending bill that includes an average of approximately 210 words per page — —or about twice as long as the stimulus law (the “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act”) that President Barack Obama signed less than a month after his inauguration in 2009.

Speaker Paul Ryan and GOP leaders inserted language that specifically restricts any and all funding of the Trump border wall.

However Paul Ryan’s bill will provide funding for border security in Jordan and Lebanon!

Given its size, both in number of pages and in the amount to be spent, it might be thought more of as a spending bill only a Democrat could love.

Is Speaker Ryan just charting his own course irrespective of the the president who happens to a member of the same party? Or is he actively seeking to obstruct the president? Or is he simply worried about his own re-election?

In any case, he is doing the nation no service, and he risks further fracturing the Republican party. Would he really prefer to switch places with Nancy Pelosi after the 2018 election?
