James, based on the information you possess, you have come to a logical conclusion. Your assessment of my father’s abuse, I’m certain, was in reference to his physical abuse. He certainly had his moments of frustration with 10 children. There was some verbal abuse and some emotional abuse, but never was there sexual abuse. You were not there however when his kindness and love and fatherly concern manifested itself to me. Though I was young, I discerned his love for me to be genuine even though he could not spend much time with me.
We all interpret relationships differently whether they be husband/wife; employer/employee; brother/sister; father/son and etc. In each of those relationships are the realities as well as the misunderstandings. As free-thinking people, we must for ourselves foster and cultivate relationships so that each can be the best it can be. With my father I chose to see him as my authority who was sincere in his dealings with me. His discipline was not so egregious that I was hateful toward him; it was a part of his person just as was his tenderness and love. He had enough of all of the right qualities to balance out his discipline of me. I respected him and understood by his belt that doing wrong and disobeying authority was going to bring pain to my life.
Your attempt at explaining the “belt” comment, I appreciate. As for my political views, child rearing philosophies, belief in the Word of God, and the condition of the mess we have on this planet, those are matters we can discuss at another time.
My father led me to a profound respect for his authority as a parent. His discipline encouraged me that he loved me and that our relationship was better if we remained on the same page. That’s how I saw it.
The thugs who tear up their town, who can’t deal with not getting their way, who kill the police, who threaten anyone who doesn’t see things their way, who call for recounts and threaten and harass the electors and blame the Russians and ad infinitum ad nauseum and etc. needed the love and discipline I got and, if they did, they would have been better off, in my opinion, had they interpreted it the way I did. The information and treatment they have received has brought them to this point in their lives, and our country by and large doesn’t like the result. Entitlement creates hell for all. People may need a hand up, but a hand out creates welfare slobs who become the problem instead of the solution.

You completely missed Civics class with your misinterpretation of Socialism, the way it adversely works and how Government run programs invite fraud and corruption.
