One of the most integral rights one has as a patient in a doctor’s care is their right to privacy. This important right ensures that your health conditions, particularly sensitive ones such as mental illness, is no one business but your own and those who are involved with treatment.
Well, today Obama destroyed that right with his far-reaching executive action regarding gun sales in the United States.
How did patient privacy end up being entangled with gun ownership? Evidentially, the new policies set forth by the president will allow doctors to turn in their patients medical records so that they can impede on that person’s second amendment right to own a gun.
If that sounds illegal to you, you may be right. HIPPA explicitly protects a patient from involuntary disclosure of medical records, but a broad exclusion for purposes of law enforcement opened up the door for Obama’s administration to exploit.

I have workec with doctors for 36 years…maybe 1 nut in several million would even bother…folks they are too busy taking care of their patients.
My experience has been that the healthcare industry is every bit as unscrupulous and money grubbing as most lawyers. I can EASILY imagine a patient encountering a doc manipulating them by dropping hints about what could happen if they don’t come back for a “followup”.. Its well known that physicians get “kickbacks” from pharmaceutical makers.. Its a small leap to see “referral bonuses” from therapists.. And once you’re in THEIR clutches?
Personally, I suspect that this WILL happen… But even if it doesn’t.. The fact that it CAN is bad enough.
VvHow much more willingly will people who need help be to SEEK help knowing that they are risking the loss of their ability to defend themselves… Or to hunt?.. Or to engage in target shooting hobby?
Distract. Divide. Conquer.
The death of due process in this country has been cheered and applauded under the guise of security. Pathetic!!!!
Complete b******t unless it’s a psychiatrist that knows the patient has weapons then that’s a different story
NO !!##!#!!!!!!!!!
The medical professionals can ask all the anti gun probing questions they want. They will not be getting any answers from me. In fact the first Doctor that asks me any questions that violate my Constitutional Rights, or are perceived by me as endangering my Constitutional Rights will no longer be dealing with my medical issues. They are to deal with medical issues of a patient, not political agendas of an over reaching government.
they HAVE BEEN DOING IT..and your Mailman has been reporting on you for 20+ years… HELLOOOO…
THIS IS HOW PEOPLE LOSE THEIR DRIVERS LICENSES…..and phones tapped…..
We need more background checks on POLITICIANS!

How much more willing will people be to seek counseping.. If they know that doing so could result in the loss of an important civil right?
It’s been said that doctors “have better things to do”.. But I disagree. Once they’re legally allowed to report “troubled” patients… HIPA laws will no longer protect them if a patient patient DOES commit violence.
This executive action is ths result of emotional witch hunts and recriminations following a crime. Do you think the victims will also fail to go after doctors who “could have” reported the person?
If you think that doctors have “better” things to do than protect themselves from million dollar lawsuits.. You’re living in a dream world.
