Obama continued to legitimize Islamic terrorists with an opt-ed published in the LA Times, stating that ISIS jihadists have ‘legitimate grievances’.
“More broadly, groups like al Qaeda and ISIL exploit the anger that festers when people feel that injustice and corruption leave them with no chance of improving their lives,” Obama wrote. “The world has to offer today’s youth something better.”
“Efforts to counter violent extremism will only succeed if citizens can address legitimate grievances through the democratic process and express themselves through strong civil societies,” he added. “Those efforts must be matched by economic, educational and entrepreneurial development so people have hope for a life of dignity.”
So all the beheadings, kidnapping, rape and various atrocities carried out by Islamic extremists for the last 1400 years was due to ‘legitimate grievances’?

That’s the kind of long term intelligent thinking that got Obama elected twice. We keep our military on their land, we prop up and take down dictators on a whim according to our interests, not the people of the regions interest, we bomb their neighborhoods with robots. Maybe they just want control over their own land. The current terrorists that have already been radicalized need to be killed before they stuck us. But going forward we need to fix this problem for the long term. We need to stop turning these people against us. I applaud our president for actually dealing with reality and trying to end the cycle of violence by thinking long term. You may call it “weak” or “surrender”. Logical people not driven by fear will see it as a solution.
PS Islamic extremists also look at the world in black and white. Not unlike some on the right. Moderate people a all over the world need to stand up against this simplistic view of the world.
