Remember, a major influence over his adult life was his youth spent under moderate Islam and his step father, Lolo Soetoro.
In his 1995 memoir ‘Dreams from My Father,’ Obama described Soetoro as well-mannered, even-tempered, and easy with people; he wrote of the (ideological) struggles he felt Soetoro had to deal with after his return to Indonesia from Hawaii.
He described his stepfather as following “a brand of Islam that could make room for the remnants of more ancient animist and Hindu faiths.”
In a 2007 article, Chicago Tribune foreign correspondent Kim Barker reported that Soetoro “was much more of a free spirit than a devout Muslim, according to former friends and neighbors.”
In other words, the president is mentally tied to a view of Islam markedly different than that of the jihad extremists we see in the Levant.
He is a universalist, and wants a peaceful, benign co-existence between Christian America and the Islamic world – despite the realities exhibited by certain sects of Islam.
He feels compelled to promote moderate Islam, while faced with the heinous acts of Mohammadists with which he cannot come to grips.
He clings to an idealistic vision of what HE imagines Islam should be – and so is adrift and out of his element. “Cognitive dissonance” they call it.
