Muslims were very violent toward non-believers from the beginning in the mid 7th century. They have always killed Christians and Jews. What we see presently does not even compare to that which was taking place in the first decades of the 20th Century. At that time tens of thousands of Christians living in the Ottoman Empire (Greece, Turkey, the Slavic Countries, and the Arabian Peninsula) Because of this and that the Ottoman Empire joined Germany during WWI Great Britain sent over Lawrence of Arabia to instigate and lead a revolution for the purpose of breaking up the Ottoman Empire. It was successful. Britain then divided the Arabian Peninsula into around a dozen countries (unfortunately without taking into consideration social structures such as tribes and their adherents) They created Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc. Yet, this never changed attitudes about non-believers. It has so far reduced the level of killings, but there is now a threat that that level will return or be exuded by ISIS (ISIL).
