The first F-16 was made in 1984; production ended in 2004. The F-35 (which started being delivered in 2015) is the replacement for the F-16. This is not the first time military items have been sold and it is not a “free for all” auction. The F-16s will be sold under what is known as the Foreign Military Sales program.
