Obama: The Most Religious People are the Most Suspicious of Others

In a conversation with Marilynn Robinson, Obama discussed a myriad of topics, but the one on religion has irked many.

He asked Robinson the following question after she stated that she believes we are made in the image of God and “being human that enlists the respect, the love of God being implied in it.”

“How do you reconcile the idea of faith being really important to you and you caring a lot about taking faith seriously with the fact that, at least in our democracy and our civic discourse, it seems as if folks who take religion the most seriously sometimes are also those who are suspicious of those not like them?”

Faith is serious.  Perhaps Obama is rattled a bit by those who question the seriousness of his faith.  Not much in Obama’s life reflects a life of faith, not much in his policy lines up with anything biblical, so what faith does he actually hold?

Obama’s comments about religion’s role in America have often irked his opponents. Throughout his presidency, a vocal group of Obama critics have questioned his Christian faith.

Ahead of Pope Francis’s recent visit to the White House, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee suggested that Obama “pretends to be” a Christian while blocking others from practicing their faith.

Huckabee is not being suspicious, he is pointing out facts.
