Obama Poll Numbers Plundge

The American public now feels that shootings and random acts of violence such as those that took place in Colorado and San Bernardino, California are a permanent part of American life by a rate of 71 percent, according to a recent NBC/Wall Street Journal poll. Additionally, 70 percent of Americans now believe the nation is headed in the wrong direction, with Obama’s job performance as president coming in at only 43 percent.

The poll showed that Obama is clearly not tracking with the concerns of Americans for public safety and security. Perhaps being surrounded by secret servicemen and military that have pledged their lives to your protection lessons the reality of terrorist threats to the president, or perhaps his historic sympathy and mysterious relationship to Islam color his judgement of how serious the threat is, but in any case, there is a widening divide between what the public judges to be important, and what the president deems worthy of concern. More results from polls include the following;

Domestic terrorism and national security have more than doubled this year and now are the top issue for 40 percent of Americans. The next nearest categories are job creation and economic growth at 23 percent and the deficit and government spending at 11 percent.

The NBC/WSJ survey found a continuing partisan divide in the poll, with 58 percent of Republican primary voters saying national security/terrorism is their top concern, versus only 26 percent of Democratic primary voters saying it is their top priority. Democrats by 33 percent and Republicans by 12 percent rate economy/jobs as their top issue.

When asked, “Is taking military action against ISIS in Iraq and Syria in our national interest or not,” roughly 60 percent are ready to send in the military and only a paltry 13 percent are opposed to direct intervention. Forty-two percent say the military should use both airstrikes and combat troops; 36 percent say it should be limited only to airstrikes; and just 12 percent say military action should not be taken.

That is a dramatic shift from earlier in Obama’s term when he could count on unquestioning, absolute loyalty from Democrats and even by some Republicans who were afraid to question his “historic” presidency. In fact, Obama’s disapproval rating has risen by 11 points in the last few months, no doubt much to his surprise.

His disapproval rating now stands at 51 percent and is likely to continue rising as he continues to lecture the nation about being racists and religious bigots rather than addressing the real problem, which is Islamic terrorism. Perhaps people have finally realized that is his “schtick.”

After seven years, it is getting quite stale, and the nation is recognizing that we have far larger concerns to be worried about than his constant harping about racism and unfair social and economic stature. It is unclear if he will wake up and realize he is fast becoming irrelevant.
