As the Obama Administration prepares to tighten access to guns, the President met Wednesday with former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to help complete the executive order that would expand background checks on gun sales while closing the “gun show loophole”.
Bloomberg is only one of many gun control advocates the president has met with in recent weeks. The order, which is currently caught in a web of legal and administrative questions is currently without a timeline.
However, even as he works to chip away at another constitutional right, a new survey is showing falling support for a ban on assault weapons, which both Obama and Bloomberg are currently advocating as a means to prevent gun-related deaths. Hillary Clinton also pushed for an assault ban during a campaign speech earlier this week.
In the wake of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Connecticut, Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns group turned into Everytown for Gun Safety with the expectations of being able to stand against the NRA. The group spent millions, most of which came from Bloomberg’s own fortune, only to fall just short of their goals on several different occasions.

With who all the 1000 people who are against background checks get a life people he’s not taking your guns your free to have them just not criminals, and yes this is the number one way to cut guns being giving out by people with and without gun license for money then ends up in all neighborhoods wake up. In the Revolutionary War, the disparity of force wasn’t nearly as pronounced as it is today. By the way, Jonathon, the whole nuclear weapon argument doesn’t hold any water. As we have seen since the dropping of Fat Man and Little Boy, it doesn’t take a nuclear bomb to change the direction of a conflict. The whole point of the argument over the 2A has less to do with gun ownership by itself and everything to do with disparity of force which is where their existence has repeatedly proven to be pivotal.
This whole exercise by Oblamo was nothing more than a feckless gesture to appease the sheep. The sheepdogs and wolves in our midst know better. Who will it affect by making it even more difficult to buy a gun? Gang bangers? Lunatics with an axe to grind? If they can’t get them from knocking off a gun shop after hours or robbing a house where they know there are guns, they’ll buy them off the black market… sort of like how people have been getting their illegal drugs for the past 50 years.
