Obama Issues Regulations in One Night Having a Total Cost of $7.4 Billion

Although they won’t admit it, one of the reasons that liberals love regulations so much is that they give them the opportunity to reward political allies and punish political opponents — sort of like tax policies. This is nothing new. What might be new, however, is the recklessness of Mr. Obama’s rush to regulate during his remaining time in office.

The Obama administration is busy pushing out last-minute regulations, including releasing $7.4 billion worth of new rules in just one night.

Whoa.  Regulations costing $7.4 billion created in one night?  This has to be some kind of record. More than that, given his animosity toward Donald Trump, this might be some sort of a “scorched-Earth” policy to create as many problems for Mr. Trump as possible.  Too bad that the American taxpayers have to bear the brunt of Mr. Obama’s profligate and reckless behavior.

Sam Batkins, director of regulatory policy at the right-leaning American Action Forum (AAF), compiled a list of regulations published Wednesday night in the Federal Register.

Note what some of the regulations are that Mr. Obama considers so essential that he’s going to send you the bill to pay for them.

Many of these costly, last-minute regulations put new restrictions on drilling for oil and natural gas from the Department of the Interior. That agency and the EPA are scheduled to publish $5.1 billion worth of “midnight” regulations.

The Department of Energy also plans on releasing regulations before Trump takes office. The agency will impose new regulations for home efficiency standards and power supplies, the combined cost of which will be $10.1 billion.

Well, at least there is some good news beyond the obvious fact that Mr. Obama will be out of office in less than three weeks.

Republican lawmakers are pushing legislation that would make it harder for federal agencies to impose major regulations and easier for them to be repealed en masse by Trump.

Regulatory experts have identified at least 150 regulations Trump could work with Congress to repeal once he takes office Jan. 21.

Now that’s encouraging. But what will happen to all those people relying on Mr. Obama’s regulations to help them with their purchases of “dedicated-purpose pool pumps?”
