Under the 2016 pay scale, a Pay Grade E-1 undergoing recruit training will be paid roughly $2.15 an hour.

David Hill He’s a linguist. And no, he’s not an officer; he chose to enlist. ROTC wasn’t an option; OCS is really not offered in the current sequestered environment. His goal is to be a helicopter pilot, and is starting off as a drone pilot. In the Army, copter pilots are warrant officers, with limited command requirements, meaning that their stick time is maximized. As an enlisted man, if the job promised in his contract is not available at the conclusion of his flight training, he’ll be released from his obligation. As a commissioned officer, though, it’s always “demands of the service”–nothing is guaranteed. He felt this was the best way he could participate in the defense of his country and achieve his personal goals as well.
