The lower pay increase translates to a Pay Grade E-4 (Corporal, Petty Officer 3d Class, Specialist 4, Senior Airman) with less than three years in service will earn less than $3.00 an hour. Under the 2016 pay scale, a Pay Grade E-1 undergoing recruit training will be paid roughly $2.15 an hour.

Julie, my point was not whether soldiers or anyone deserve the money, but to point out how inaccurate the article was that was posted. No one joins the military to get rich, it has its challenges and rewards, I wouldn’t have traded my 25 years deployments and all for anything. But with fewer than 1% of the US population serving, I doubt there is any real connection between those that do and the other 99% except for the inane “thank you for your service” and social media posts. I encourage young people to consider the military it offers a tremendous amount of tangible benefits as well as the intangible reward of having served your country and meeting some of the most highly skilled people I have ever worked with.
