Obama Commutes Sentences Of 22 Drug Offenders

Obama announced last week that he would commute the sentences of 22 drug offenders, most of whom sold crack cocaine. The list contained many serving life sentences and even included those selling drugs in school zones.

“The 22 commutations granted today underscore the President’s commitment to using all the tools at his disposal to bring greater fairness and equity to our justice system,” stated Neil Eggleston, White House Assistant and Counsel to the President. “Further, they demonstrate how exercising this important authority can remedy imbalances and rectify errors in sentencing.”
