Obama Campaigns Against Trump at UN

Is Obama hoping to win the Mr. Universe pageant against Trump? Why is he campaigning against Trump in his speech at the United Nations?

Obama’s comments were very focused on the things that Trump has said on his campaign trail and apparently it has the President rattled.

“We see greater polarization, more frequent gridlock; movements on the far right, and sometimes the left, that insist on stopping the trade that binds our fates to other nations, calling for the building of walls to keep out immigrants,” he said.

Trump has made a strong case for building a wall to fight illegal immigration and Obama mocks the idea as being “unAmerican”.

“This whole anti-immigrant sentiment that’s out there in our politics right now is contrary to who we are,” he said. “Because unless you’re Native American, your family came from someplace else.”“This whole anti-immigrant sentiment that’s out there in our politics right now is contrary to who we are,” he said. “Because unless you’re Native American, your family came from someplace else.”

The President also said to the leaders in the United Nations that utilizing fear to gain support was inexcusable and connected this idea with the Republican party.

“Most ominously, we see the fears of ordinary people being exploited through appeals to sectarianism, or tribalism, or racism, or anti-Semitism; appeals to a glorious past before the body politic was infected by those who look different, or worship God differently; a politics of us versus them,” he said, calling for a more inclusive political conversation.

Ironically, Obama is using a passive aggressive, fear mongering tactic, at the United Nations, as he attacks Trump and the Republican party to the leader of the world.
