At a “Save the Black Church” rally a block away from the site of the Charleston shooting, Malik Zulu Shabazz issued a call to arms to the 200 blacks in attendance, citing the story of Denmark Vesey, who had planned an unsuccessful slave revolt and helped found the Mother Emanuel Church there in Charleston.
