Jay Familglietti, NASA’s top water scientist, recently warned that California has only a year’s supply of water left in storage facilities and the backup groundwater is rapidly depleting. Despite this harrowing fact, California has no backup plan to address this crisis.
“California has no contingency plan for a persistent drought like this one (let alone a 20-plus-year mega-drought), except, apparently, staying in emergency mode and praying for rain,” stated Familglietti. “In short, we have no paddle to navigate this crisis.”

Since the ocean levels are supposedly rising, desalination sounds like a viable option.
It’s expensive to start up but better than the alternative. Guess they should have thought of this 30 years ago.
Thats how it is here in Texas youll be out in the sticks where I live on water rations but you go into the Dallas area and see people watering basically their sidewalks with crappy automatic sprinkler systems. Makes zero sense.
I have always had a mixed emotion about this.. I dont believe there is a shortage of water not one bit. Now a huge displacement of water there is indeed… Trillions of gallons in bottle form via soda, juices,water etc. and swimming pools too. What if we we just to empty them all back into the ground ? How would this affect the water tables? Would it be as it was 20 yrs ago?
