Jay Familglietti, NASA’s top water scientist, recently warned that California has only a year’s supply of water left in storage facilities and the backup groundwater is rapidly depleting. Despite this harrowing fact, California has no backup plan to address this crisis.
“California has no contingency plan for a persistent drought like this one (let alone a 20-plus-year mega-drought), except, apparently, staying in emergency mode and praying for rain,” stated Familglietti. “In short, we have no paddle to navigate this crisis.”
UPDATE: California Gov. Jerry Brown issues ineffectual, mandatory water restriction as one-third of our nation’s crops are threatened. See Page 3 for updates.

Now I’m worried because I have people I care about in Cali…
That means more illegals will move to other states.
So u r telling me that wit all the technology we got n they still havnt figured out how to separate the salt from the ocean water….i mean there is a lot of fuking water on this planet
People be blaming illegals XD
Suxs to be them
When it gets to a critical point here in New Zealand they shut it down for the farmers. We are reading 23 $#%&!@*ics per second at the moment on the Waiau river. It can hit 1400 $#%&!@*ics when it’s flooding. A normal 2 day rain spell can make it hit 600.
I’m sorry California, but you’ve left a legacy of waste: your polluted air, your destroyed land and now your abuse of your use of OUR water. Look into your causes of these issues before asking the rest of the USA to bail (sorry for the pun) you out of the problem.
Man, all these negative comments are horrible. If this was happening in your state I bet you wouldn’t want people saying you’re screwed and on your own. Did most of you know that a big majority of your produce comes from California? No water means no food for you. Oh yah, and those illegal immigrants are the ones who harvest it. Get some perspective people. And a little comp$#%&!@*ion.
Gary Rodgers California doesn’t grow all the food but they grow a lot. I bet you won’t be this happy when your water starts getting rationed and your local produce prices go through the roof. Oh and the food that’s grown in the Midwest doesn’t need as much water as the type of food grown in California and Florida.
Water went down too fast in 3 years, something is wrong not being told truth here
