Jay Familglietti, NASA’s top water scientist, recently warned that California has only a year’s supply of water left in storage facilities and the backup groundwater is rapidly depleting. Despite this harrowing fact, California has no backup plan to address this crisis.
“California has no contingency plan for a persistent drought like this one (let alone a 20-plus-year mega-drought), except, apparently, staying in emergency mode and praying for rain,” stated Familglietti. “In short, we have no paddle to navigate this crisis.”

Instead of building desalination plants I’ve been preaching for the last 20 years, Governor “Moonbeam” insisted on building high-speed rail, that few will use (and it will have to be subsidized) that will cost in the billions. And since it is a government contract, I bet my eye teeth, there will be overruns, stoppages due to imminent domain suits, and labor disputes. By now we could have had 5 or 6 built, providing both gray water for central valley for agriculture and drinking water for the m$#%&!@*es. This would have prevented this dire warning and we would not have had to rely so much on ice melt and purchased water from Colorado etc. Liberal thinking will kill this nation’s productivity and our children’s future.
