Jay Familglietti, NASA’s top water scientist, recently warned that California has only a year’s supply of water left in storage facilities and the backup groundwater is rapidly depleting. Despite this harrowing fact, California has no backup plan to address this crisis.
“California has no contingency plan for a persistent drought like this one (let alone a 20-plus-year mega-drought), except, apparently, staying in emergency mode and praying for rain,” stated Familglietti. “In short, we have no paddle to navigate this crisis.”
UPDATE: California Gov. Jerry Brown issues ineffectual, mandatory water restriction as one-third of our nation’s crops are threatened. See Page 3 for updates.

Blake, there is no way to deny that human activity ( specifically our use of petroleum based fuels, coal and hydro fluorocarbons ) is causing the earth to warm. Yes, we all know the planet’s temperature fluctuates on its own. But there is no denying we are making the planet uninhabitable. If you don’t have the brain to go and actually read scientific articles I can’t make you, but you might as well be trying to argue that 2 + 2 = 73.
And it’s hilarious that you say “wow are you dumb” and then immediately prove you’re an idiot in your very next sentence.
I’ll be selling bottled water n ebay.
Yes Matt, they are $#%&!@* out of luck. This is the whole point of people denying that we are affecting the planet. If you keep on doing nothing because you either don’t want to believe it’s true or the fixes will be too costly, you WILL get to a point of no return where you CANT reverse the damage no matter what you do.
You have all the water right next to you, the ocean. Saudi Arabia and many other middle eastern countries get half their water or more from the ocean. They have built many desalination plants on their coastline, or for California that might disturb some other animal if they did that. The state should have seen this coming and planned long ago. Its California problem now deal with it.
What you mean the way you voiced yours? Supporting the loss of water that goes to nourish a large population of human life that could lead to potential loss of life, would destroy ecosystems found nowhere else on Earth, and would decimate 25% of America’s agriculture isn’t stupid, its completely moronic. The world doesn’t need another dumb$#%&!@*’s opinion, so kindly $#%&!@* off.
And ALL that Ocean. Should have Desalinization Plants up and running years ago, but we spend too much pampering politicians !
Indiana has plenty of water. Too bad none of the liberals want to live here.
CA, keep voting in liberal $#%&!@* clowns, you reap what you sow, and stay away from Texas, we don’t want you.
Californian average water consumption = 186 gallons per day! I’m in Australia and during our last drought, our household total consumption per day was 37 gallons (140 litres) per day for 2 adults. Don’t laugh its not impossible, just requires careful planning and usage.
