Jay Familglietti, NASA’s top water scientist, recently warned that California has only a year’s supply of water left in storage facilities and the backup groundwater is rapidly depleting. Despite this harrowing fact, California has no backup plan to address this crisis.
“California has no contingency plan for a persistent drought like this one (let alone a 20-plus-year mega-drought), except, apparently, staying in emergency mode and praying for rain,” stated Familglietti. “In short, we have no paddle to navigate this crisis.”

This has nothing to do with climate change… If anything, warmer temperatures would increase water in the atmosphere, which would just increase the rate of the water cycle.
No, this has to do with using a huge amount of water while having an unusually dry several years. The water will return. Whether the environment is destroyed by then or not is completely an act of normal environmental conditions.

There are a lot of scientist who have linked the drought to the rapidly changing climate. But you are dead on about water usage. People don’t realize environmental impact that factory farming is having on our country.
I hope someone reads this: they have artificial trees that’s only biproduct is water. I’m no scientist, but 10,000 of those absorbing pollution from population centers and putting there water back in the rivers and streams… I feel like that would be a good start at least for these situations.
