Jay Familglietti, NASA’s top water scientist, recently warned that California has only a year’s supply of water left in storage facilities and the backup groundwater is rapidly depleting. Despite this harrowing fact, California has no backup plan to address this crisis.
“California has no contingency plan for a persistent drought like this one (let alone a 20-plus-year mega-drought), except, apparently, staying in emergency mode and praying for rain,” stated Familglietti. “In short, we have no paddle to navigate this crisis.”
UPDATE: California Gov. Jerry Brown issues ineffectual, mandatory water restriction as one-third of our nation’s crops are threatened. See Page 3 for updates.

BTW…. They didn’t “open all dams” as they are always open. Using pulse releases are designed to sustain life while sustaining consumption.
Yes already read that article. It was a year ago…. They are beyond that and were hoping for a good winter snow pack but middle Calif did not get that pack. Global warmings toll….
Maybe they should p$#%&!@* a law allowing water catchment tanks.
Yeah? Just wait til the big quake hits
Got to save the lowly river smelt
can we send the liberal ones to canada. thats like half that states population.
California is screwed in so many ways, glad I left there in ’81. Let’s see how well their “Climate Change” legislation does to save their $#%&!@*.
Seems like they should have spent the last decade building desalination plants powered by alternative energy resources. They have plenty of salt water and even their extravagant use of close to 200 gallons on average per day, they would not even make a dent in the pacific for a very long time.
Until they ban water use for watering gr$#%&!@* and golf course irrigation they can drink the salt water for all i care. “It is Californians god-given right to water their lawns.” Sen. Diane Feinstein
I completely agree that should have been the very first step taken, but m$#%&!@*ive water shortages have always been in the cards for California, and they have had plenty of time to plan ahead. My point is that there is no earthly reason, even when they have been wasting drinkable water, that they should have gotten to this point.
