Jay Familglietti, NASA’s top water scientist, recently warned that California has only a year’s supply of water left in storage facilities and the backup groundwater is rapidly depleting. Despite this harrowing fact, California has no backup plan to address this crisis.
“California has no contingency plan for a persistent drought like this one (let alone a 20-plus-year mega-drought), except, apparently, staying in emergency mode and praying for rain,” stated Familglietti. “In short, we have no paddle to navigate this crisis.”

Agree Doug. Many civilizations abandon city’s in the past. Water goes away there isn’t much choise. Now its finance vs nature. No ones gona wana foot the bill for the fix.
Seriously? Selfish? Our entire state depends on the fishing, boating and tourist industry. Would you enjoy living in one of hundreds of thousands of lake houses, with a boat in your dock and no water to use either? How well do you think the deep water fish will survive when the lake levels decrease and the water temperatures increase? Would you be willing to pay to take the fresh water intake pumps and sink them farther from shore so you can continue to pump drinking water? These are just a few of the effects of depleting the water supply. Selfish is not making any sacrifice to protect your water supply and then crying foul that those who planned and prepared don’t want to “share.” Who will be the next to “owe” you after you empty the Great Lakes?
