Muslims With Questionable Social Media Page Content Kicked Off Plane

Obama’s holiday will abruptly end as he returns to Washington and attempts to convince the American people that he has ISIS on the run and not to fear, but also explain to the United Kingdom, exactly why U.S. officials would not allow the Mahmood family from flying to the U.S.

Mahmood was denied a flight with his family to Disneyland on Dec. 15 from Gatwick Airport after U.S. officials in D.C. flagged him and contacted British authorities. He initially claimed discrimination and profiling, but subsequent information indicated what his name might have been doing on the so-called “no-fly” list.

Mahmood’s brother was also reportedly denied entry into Israel some time ago — reports differed as to exactly when — which also seems likely to land someone on the no-fly list.

And, though officials probably didn’t know it at the time, later reports indicated that Mahmood had family members in the United States who attend the same mosque where San Bernardino shooters Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik worshiped.

Apparently, a Facebook page in Mahmood’s son’s name and associated with his address listed occupations of “supervisor at Taliban and leader at Al Qaeda” — titles that sound as if they were most likely meant as a joke.

Unfortunately, airline security personnel aren’t known for their senses of humor. Go ahead and make a pun on the phrase “pipe bomb” next time you’re headed through an airport metal detector and see how that works out for you.

All these things make it a reasonable response by U.S. officials and therefore they should be applauded.  However, Obama now must keep his talking points in check, “don’t fear, I’ve got it under control” while explaining to P.M. Cameron why this was not profiling.

How should officials tell a “peaceful Muslim” from one bent on terror as he books a flight to Disneyland?  It is a conundrum, but certainly better safe than sorry still is a valid point.
