Board member Gerald Lyons suggested there is a perfectly valid reason for having school on Thursday: having just six days’ notice (nope, the Islamists did not consider it prior to that or in any previous year…why?) would cause “undue hardship” for 5,000 to 10,000 parents who might not have anywhere else to send their kids.
Lyons also reminded the Muslims that students can still take the day off as an excused religious absence, meaning they would not face a penalty for doing so. Ah, but that was not acceptable. It is important to force everyone to observe the Islam holy day. Others noted that the school does not let out for the Jewish holidays Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
The controversy came in the first year that schools in New York City will not have classes Thursday, the result of a decision made by Mayor Bill de Blasio last March, WNBC reported.
Interesting that Comrade de Blasio, an avowed atheist and communist, suddenly has compassion for Muslims. He never expresses it for the Christians and Jews of the city.
It appears just another way of Balkanizing the community. Diversity is rooted in the word division, so touting diversity means he is working hard to find and promote problems.
