Mueller Loads Up Russia Probe with Deluge of Liberal Lawyers

Among the lawyers joining the Russia probe are James Quarles and Jeannie Rhee, both of whom worked with Mueller at his prior law firm, WilmerHale.

Also included in the hiring of 13 attorneys for the staff is Andrew Weissmann, who led the investigation of Enron. So far, only five of the lawyers hired have been identified.

Trump supporters have expressed great concern that Quarles, Rhee and Weissmann have contributed a combined $53,000+ to Democrats since 1988, according to Federal Election Commission records.

More concerning are these facts; Quarles worked on the congressional staff that tried to bring impeachment proceedings against Richard Nixon during the Watergate scandal; Rhee worked in the Department of Justice under Eric Holder and then had the Clinton Foundation as a client when she was in private practice; and Weissman was a donor to President Obama.

That’s quite a stacked deck Mueller is building.

In the great Washington tradition of back-scratching, former Special Counsel Kenneth Starr, who led the investigation of the Clintons regarding Whitewater and the Lewinsky scandal, weighed in on Mueller and his team:

That is a great, great team of complete professionals, so let’s let him do his job.”

Special Counsel Mueller was initially charged with investigating the issue of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. But recent news reports claim that the probe has widened to investigate President Trump for obstruction of justice in the dismissal of FBI Director James Comey. The president’s tweet this morning would appear to confirm that.

On Wednesday, the Washington Post broke news of the widening probe, which the Trump team was quick to dismiss as “fake news.” Immediately, the media herd picked up the story and spread it widely.

These news reports are based on anonymous sources that claim Mueller’s investigators will interview Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and National Security Agency Director Adm. Mike Rogers.

Both Coats and Rogers testified before Congress that they’ve not been pressured in any way by the Trump administration regarding the Russia probe.

Mueller’s investigation is supposed to determine if there is any evidence sufficient to determine if laws have been broken.

Law enforcement sources tell CNN that the special counsel is gathering information and considering whether there is evidence to launch a full-scale obstruction investigation.”

Unverified news reports spread the story that President Trump has considered firing Mueller and shutting down the Russia investigation. At this point, that seems just more fake news that’s becoming the order of the day in Washington D.C. In the current partisan climate, it would seem that all news reports are unverified.
