Michelle Obama is being called an inspiration to African-Americans everywhere, after he speech at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on Monday night. Using her “knowledge” and “experience” in the White House, she took aim and fired and Donald Trump. Apparently because the White House was built by slaves and an America currently has an African-American president, America is now the greatest country on Earth.
If you've done any fact-checking and you know your history, you'll find that, in this particular case, Michelle Obama is right. However, there's another side to the story. When the White House was under construction, both enslaved and free African-Americans were used to build, but they weren't the only ones forced into labor. Immigrants from Ireland, Scotland and other European nations were used, as well.
This is what people tend to forget. Slavery didn't just consist of African-Americans. In fact, the Irish were the first slaves in America. They might not have been “slaves” per say when building the White House, but they were once slaves, themselves.
That being said, how long are modern African-Americans going to hold modern white people accountable for slavery?
