May I Be Blunt? Apology Not Accepted

Emily Blunt went on the NBC’s Today show on Thursday morning to promote her film and undo the damage that she may have caused to the film’s success by her anti-America comment.

“I became an American citizen recently, and that night, we watched the Republican debate and I thought, ‘This was a terrible mistake. What have I done?’” said Blunt.

Her apology seems to be motivated only by the need to promote the film Sicario.  In the interview at NBC’s Today, Savannah Guthrie said that this comment was “‘a joke’ that was taken the ‘wrong way'”, according to Breitbart.

“It was so not the intention to hurt anybody or cause any offense, so I really apologize to those that I caused offense,” she said. “It was just an offhand joke. I think I’ll probably leave the political jokes to late night or something.”

I suppose the promotion of a new film gives one the platform to make an apology, but one questions the timing and authenticity. Her off the cuff remarks come from what she believes deep down to be true.  Her apology only resonates to be true if there is demonstrative action that proves her initial statement to be rash.
