Man Arrested at Disneyland Packing a Quran and Firearms

Disneyland Paris, “heureux endroit sur terre”, known as the happiest place on earth, could have become the most tragic place on earth had the security staff at Disney’s New York Hotel, not found the handguns and cartridges in the baggage of a guest attempting to make a reservation.

France is still operating under a state of emergency after the Paris terror attack and hotels are taking strong precautions to keep their customers and staff safe by screening baggage.

François Banon, Vice President Communication and Public Affairs, Disneyland Paris, said:  “During a routine security screening checkpoint at one of our hotels, weapons were discovered in a guest’s luggage through our x-ray machine. The police were immediately notified and the individual was arrested.

The man arrested is not, according to police, on any terror watch-list and his only criminal offense is a driving infraction.  He claims that his luggage only had his handguns because his mother would not allow him to leave them at her house.

The arrested man said he was carrying the guns for protection because he felt “under threat”. A judicial, rather than anti-terror, investigation was launched as police do not believe he was planning any kind of attack, but he may yet face charges of transporting and owning illegal weapons.

It has now emerged the man told officers he was moving house away from Paris, and had temporarily stored most of belongings at his mother’s house. She refused to look after his guns, forcing him to take them to Disneyland Paris for his planned break with his girlfriend.

It seems that the inconvenience of an X-ray machine may have conveniently stopped a would be killer utilizing the opportunity to wreak havoc on a beloved vacation spot.
