Maher Issues Apology for “I’m A House Ni**er” Comment

It didn’t take long for HBO to come out in opposition to the shameful remarks by Bill Maher in order to get ahead of the anticipated hemorrhage of advertising money that was sure to follow.  It was equally festinated that Maher would reply with the typical Liberal drivel of “I was tired…it was unfortunate…I was on cold medication…I was distracted…it was a youthful indiscretion…”  You’ve heard all the excuses.

We may have hit the moment of “peak outrage.”

After months of liberal anger focused on Trump in particular, and the conservative right in general which culminated with last week’s unfortunate attempt at “humor” by Kathy Griffin, in which a severed Donald Trump head reportedly cost her her career (in her own words), overnight Bill Maher did his best to take the heat off of Griffin by focusing the next round of social outrage – especially that emanating from the left – on himself.

As the Wrap notes, “the former Politically Incorrect host proved he’s still politically incorrect when Republican Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse invited Maher to “work in the fields.” Maher’s reply prompted outrage among the liberal half of social media, as well as a barrage of calls aimed at HBO to fire Maher. Discussing his new book on Friday evening, the following exchange took place:

“I’ve got to get to Nebraska more,” Maher said to Sasse.

“You’re welcome. We’d love to have you work in the fields with us,” Sasse replied.

“Work in the fields? Senator, I’m a house nigger. No, it’s a joke,” said Maher.

To clarify, however, Sasse actually said, “We’d love to have you work in the FIELD with us.”  Not “fields.”  Big difference.

So where is all the outrage from the Left?  It’s there.  But you’ll never hear about it on the nightly news.  Nor will you hear about it on CNN or MSNBC.  You will also not read about it at Yahoo News or Microsoft Network or the Washington Post.  You won’t see an exclusive by Katie Couric wondering why Maher is fired yet.  Right wing news will cover it, with a healthy portion of tweets and Facebook posts that show just how up-in-arms the Black community is on this issue.  But be aware:  the Left is still the Left.  Despite the fact that one of their own within the many mosaic folds of the Progressive tapestry was the offender, they will still drag any and all Right wing figureheads into the fray and lump them in with the discriminatory remarks.  You know, guilty by association.  Even when they don’t associate with that type.

Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) is finding this out the hard way.  He was there when the racial slur was utter by the host and, because he did not stand up and decry Maher at that moment, he has now been embroiled in this whole sordid affair as well.  Guilty by association.  You must take into account the fact that he is still young (45) and has not had a proper “breaking-in” to the GOP to understand all the myriad pitfalls of gallivanting with the Left and their heroes, and also doesn’t have the benefit of having a lot of Trump supporters (half of American voters, mind you) on his side at the moment because of his lifetime membership in the club of Never Trumpers.  That has not helped his cause and has made me a bit insensitive to the problems that will follow him around because of this incident.  Don’t expect Trump to come out swinging for a guy who proclaimed himself a “third-party voter” and said that he’d actually quit the GOP if it was re-made in Trump’s image.

Better start packing your bags, Senator.  I don’t think Trump supporters will be backing down soon from the Establishmentariat that you support.

As for Maher…

The very cunning comedian who knows as much about the “struggle of African-Americans” as he knows about the true meaning of humility will go on insulting anyone who is stupid enough to be a guest on his show, or vapid enough to date him.
