Scientists in Osaka, Japan produced a 2-petawatt laser beam with a device known as the Laser for Fast Ignition Experiment (LFEX).
This device has power equivalent to 1,000 times the world’s total electricity consumption, scientists claim.
That does indeed make it a ‘Death Star’, at least when considering the Earth’s electrical consumption.

Probably because all it would take is some mirrors to get the laser to space than from there they could easily recharge it and probably end up vaporizing the world!
