Ivanka Trump Calls for More Syrian Refugees to Enter U.S.

As the Syrian civil war continues, the tide of refugees remains a serious international issue. Ivanka was clear to put it in terms of a problem that requires more than just U.S. action to solve it.

I think there is a global humanitarian crisis that’s happening. And we have to come together and we have to solve it.”

During the 2016 presidential race, candidate Trump voiced his concerns that letting in large number of Syrian refugees would raise the odds that more terrorists could enter the United States.

… who are definitely in many cases ISIS-aligned. And we now have them in our country … this is going to be the great Trojan horse. And wait til you see what happens in the coming years.”

When directly asked if the United States should open its borders to refugees, Ivanka made it clear that it was something to be considered, but she did not directly contradict her father’s position.

That has to be part of the discussion, but that’s not going to be enough in and of itself.”

Candidate Trump spoke of creating “safe zones” for refugees in countries close by Syria so that the refugees would not be stranded so far away from home.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been criticized for opening her country’s borders too wide for refugees, many of whom are not women and children but grown men.

As host for the women’s conference, Merkel had the opportunity to get better acquainted with Ivanka, who was rudely booed by boorish conference participants when she spoke about how much her father has done to empower women in The Trump Organization, and now the White House.

Asked if Merkel was trying to use her as a back-channel to reach her father, the first daughter dismissed the idea, noting that she believes the German chancellor and American president have a good relationship.
