Israel and Jerusalem: The UN Refuses to Admit the Truth

The Israeli government is not perfect, and it would not be difficult to find policies and actions of that government that are troubling.  It’s not like the Israeli government has achieved a level of perfection that has proven elusive to others.  It hasn’t. However, that’s no excuse for the United Nations to employ obvious falsehoods in establishing its policy regarding Israel.

The UN needs to decide if it wishes to be a vehicle for conflict resolution in the Middle-East, or whether it would prefer just to bash Israel, making up lies as needed to support its agenda.  At this point, the latter would appear to be its choice as,

… a proposed UNESCO resolution that attacks Israel on various grounds–nothing new there–and, most notably, implicitly denies the connection between Jews and Temple Mount, or Jerusalem.

YNET News explains:

The United Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) passed a draft resolution on Thursday that failed to acknowledge the Jewish people’s ties to the Temple Mount, raising ire in Israel.

The proposal “strongly condemns the Israeli escalating aggressions and illegal measures against the Waqf Department and its personnel, and against the freedom of worship and Muslims’ access to their Holy Site Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al Sharif, and requests Israel, the Occupying Power, to respect the historic Status Quo and to immediately stop these measures.”

It omits the Jewish name for the holy site—the Temple Mount—and instead refers to it only by its Muslim name—Al-Haram Al Sharif.

If Israel is the nation at the center of the controversy, then Jerusalem is the city of contention, and the Temple Mount is the exact point where conflicting beliefs find their most volatile expression.

It would be nice if the UN and its agencies would start with a truthful expression of the facts.  However if the UN’s primary motivation for getting involved in this dispute is to denigrate Israel, then truth isn’t the handiest tool at its disposal as some of the facts will get in the way of its agenda.

Here’s an example of the problem:

UNESCO’s attempt to deny that Jerusalem has any historical connection to the Jewish people is absurd.

Of course it is.  But denying any connection between the Jewish people and Jerusalem is a quick shortcut to ending the debate.  If there is no such connection, then it’s time to install Arab sovereignty over the area and be done with it.  Sounds like the UN’s plan.

But the Jews do have an obvious connection with Jerusalem as well as with the Temple Mount.  You can debate how strong that connection is, but to deny it is to deny history, and it ends any progress in resolving conflicts, which is what the UN is supposed to be about.

If the UN isn’t about conflict resolution, then what good is it?  Just one more tool in the hands of globalists bent on creating some form of supra-national government to replace national sovereignty?  If resolving conflicts is its mission, then the search for the truth will be essential.  If it just wants to be part of a world government, then any old lies that help will do.
