Israel Cuts ‘Working Ties’ With 12 Countries After UN Vote

Knowing that he can’t rely on Obama to defend Israel against the United Nations, the country has declared that it will cut “working ties” to 12 nations that supported a resolution condemning its practice of building settlements within its borders. This would appear to be what Netanyahu was talking about when he said that the members of the Security Council would receive a “diplomatic and economic price” for their support of the measure:

“Those countries included Britain, France, Russia, China, Japan and Spain. The impact of the move was not immediately clear, but Netanyahu over the weekend recalled Israeli ambassadors from 10 of the countries involved.

President-elect Donald Trump — who vowed last week that “things will be different” at the UN once he’s inaugurated — remained sore over the resolution.

“The United Nations has such great potential but right now it is just a club for people to get together, talk and have a good time. So sad!” Trump tweeted.

Doubling down on claims originally made by Netanyahu, two senior Israeli officials on Monday evening threatened to deliver “iron-clad information” to the incoming Trump administration — supposedly showing that President Obama was behind the settlement-critical resolution.

“This was a deliberate push by the United States and in fact they helped create the resolution in the first place,” Netanyahu spokesman David Keyes claimed on Fox News.

Just a few hours later, Ron Dermer, a controversial Israeli ambassador to the U.S., said on CNN that the U.S. was “behind this ganging up on Israel.”
