ISIS In Texas: 2 Gunmen Dead At ‘Draw Muhammad’ Contest

Former terrorist suspect Elton Simpson, 30, and his roommate Nadir Soofi, 34, were gunned down after shooting a guard in the ankle outside the Curtis Culwell Center in the Dallas suburb of Garland, Texas at 7pm Sunday evening.

Simpson has been under surveillance since 2006 and was convicted in 2010 of lying to FBI agents about efforts to join a jihadist group Somalia. The judge gave him probation stating it couldn’t be proven he was actually traveling to become a terrorist.

American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) held the contest for caricatures depicting the Prophet Muhammad. Islamic law deems that any physical depiction of the prophet is prohibited, even a positive one, and calls for jihad.
