IRS targeting American Legion?

The IRS is now targeting vetrans through new bureaucratic demands for extra documentation. Auditors now aim to enforce requirements that veterans organizations keep members’ discharge papers to maintain their tax-exempt status. The documents the IRS demands includes social security numbers and, in some cases, medical histories. The motive for this bizarre enforcement order is unclear, but the results are shameful.

From the Washington Examiner:

Louis Celli, national legislative director of the Legion, stopped short of saying the IRS is “targeting” the organization for political purposes, as the tax agency admitted doing earlier this year Tea Party and other conservative groups seeking nonprofit status since 2010.
