The Trump administration seems to be wasting no time getting its financials in order. Just a few weeks into Donald Trump’s term, Trump tweeted that the debt had been lowered by $60 billion. Reports are also circulating that Trump’s first budget will oversee the largest reduction of the federal workforce since WWII.
So we know how Trump plans to save money. But how will he make it?
He certainly doesn’t seem to be willing to raise taxes very much. While he has suggested that he might be okay with a small tax increase on the rich, most of the government’s extra income seems contingent on a growing economy, not higher tax rates.
But that’s not their only plan.
The Trump Administration also seems to be eyeing unpaid debts held by foreign governments — some going back half a century.
Read about how the U.S. is demanding repayment for Cambodian bombings on the next page:
Fiscal responsibility, what a concept.
Go get ’em Mr. President!
Cambodia is so pour, I don’t think the entire country has 60 million. When beer is 25 cents and an entire meal is one dollar, there isn’t any money. Infrastructure is nonexistent, little or no new construction.
If we bombed them why are we asking for money, we crossed border illegally.
We have no evidence that Trump is a good businessman. In fact, we have no evidence that he is even solvent. If it turns out that he does have money, the challenge will be to untangle its dark path.
War reparations – yeah not a popular topic. And yet, war reparations in aid always accepted and even expected. USA has typically been the caretaker of enemies.
A lot of foreign aid is either 1) we give you money so you can buy things from US companies (primarily weapons, ships and aircraft) or 2) has so many strings attached that it is like your parents insisting on paying for your house but forcing you to live where they want, keep the visitors to a minimum and 2.5 grandkids immediately. Gratitude is a stretch.
Edward paradine, who do they give them up to? Someone has to buy them or is there a secret you know about selling bonds?
