US Warns Americans In Istanbul: Consulate Under ‘Imminent Security Threat’

Given it’s close proximity to Syria and own troubled history, Turkey has already seen it’s fair share of terrorist violence. Long suppressed by successive military governments, Muslim fundamentalists have come crawling out of the woodwork following the rise to power of Recep Tayip Erdogan, an unabashed Islamist. Per the Clarion Project:

“The warning followed previous bombing attacks in Turkey, including a pipe bomb that exploded earlier in the week on a highway in Istanbul and a bomb that killed more than 100 demonstrators at a peace rally in Ankara in October.

A previous assault on the consulate by two women in August left the assailants dead.”

Americans in Turkey would be wise to stay safe and keep their eyes peeled for suspicious activity.
