“Hamilton” Cast Chastises Mike Pence from Stage for Not Protecting “Diverse America”

Whenever a conservative ventures into an event involving the arts such as a play or musical, he or she becomes something like Daniel in the lions’ den.  Those working in the arts, like much of the major media, mostly hold liberal political views.  In some cases like Michael Moore, they take their politics to extreme levels.  But even if conservatives don’t encounter a left-wing nut-job like Moore, they should be pleasantly surprised if they are greeted with grace and courtesy.  Especially after this election.

So when Mr. Pence attended a performance of the highly popular musical, “Hamilton,” he waked right into a leftist maelstrom.  From start to finish, the disdain for Mr. Pence held by the cast and audience, and by way of association, Mr. Trump was made very clear.

Vice President-elect Mike Pence walked out of the hip-hop musical Hamilton on Broadway Friday night after nonstop booing from the audience prompted an anti-Trump lecture from one of the performers on stage.

Polite bunch of folks, these Hillary supporters.  They can’t even go out for a night of entertainment without venting their anger.  Will they ever get over their loss?

So Mr. Pence must have gotten fed-up with the verbal abuse and chose to exit shortly before the show was over.  Not to miss an opportunity to verbally attack the incoming Trump administration, one actor chose to deliver a prepared speech to the vice-president elect.

Just before the end of the performance, Pence, surrounded by Secret Service, exited the theater. The Vice President-elect was then asked by actor Brandon Victor Dixon to listen to his lecture about how a “diverse America” is “alarmed and anxious” about the incoming Trump administration.

“We, sir — we — are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights,” Dixon said as Pence exited the building.

“We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us,” Dixon added as the crowd exploded in applause and cheers.

It’s doubtful Mr. Pence needed any help from the cast of this production to determine policy.

What’s somewhat amusing is that the producers of this musical may have just gotten hoisted by their own baton.  Recall that filing complains against those thought to be violating equal-opportunity laws and regulations has been a regular activity of the left for decades.

It really hasn’t mattered if discrimination actually occurred, something we should all oppose.  The left’s complains have often been used to intimidate those who have no intention of acting in a discriminatory manner, but who just champion causes liberals don’t like.

So it’s more than enjoyable to share this news.

The hottest show on Broadway has won praise for its groundbreaking casting of black and Latino performers, but now, “Hamilton” may have run afoul of the strict New York City Human Rights Law.

As CBS2’s Tony Aiello reported, the controversy was sparked by a casting notice posted by the producers of “Hamilton,” which specifically seeks “non-white” performers.

One critic said “Hamilton” takes a story that “valorizes dead white guys” and replaces it with black, Latino and multi-ethnic performers playing America’s founding fathers.

But as the blockbuster musical looks to expand to other cities, the casting notice with its call for “non-white” performers looks problematic to civil rights attorney Randolph McLaughlin.

So the leftists producing “Hamilton” appear to be guilty of racial discrimination in hiring.

“You cannot advertise showing that you have a preference for one racial group over another,” McLaughlin said. “As an artistic question – sure, he can cast whomever he wants to cast, but he has to give every actor eligible for the role an opportunity to try.”

That is also the policy of Actors Equity, the Broadway union, which says, “…producers agree that auditions for all productions… will be conducted in such a manner as to provide full and fair consideration to actors of all ethnicities.”

Pretty straightforward stuff.  What does the producer of “Hamilton” have to say in response?

Producer Jeffrey Seller defended the diversity of the “Hamilton” cast and the legality of the “non-white” casting notice.

“I stand by it and believe it to be legal,” he said.
