Georgia’s Sixth District Tells Hollywood to Buzz Off with Big Handel Win for GOP

In becoming the first Republican woman in Georgia to gain election to Congress, Handel relied on her experience as Georgia’s secretary of state and simply outworked Ossoff, who looked to coast into office on a flood of out-of-state money.

Left-leaning political pundits hyped the race as “too close to call,” and played up the Trump angle to generate support for the 30-year old California documentary filmmaker, who exemplified the very meaning of “carpetbagger.”

Some of President Trump’s most vocal critics lined up behind Ossoff, include Rosie O’Donnell, Jane Fonda and Samuel L. Jackson

In April, Jackson cut a 45-second radio ad endorsing Ossoff, urging Georgia voters to “stop Donald Trump, a man who encourages racial and religious discrimination and sexism.”

Others got more hands-on, like actress Alyssa Milano, who actually showed up in Georgia and drove voters to polling sites for the April election that set up last night’s runoff between Handel and Ossoff.

Other celebrities who injected themselves into the election included John Leguizamo, Sarah Silverman and Debra Messing. Their strident anti-Trump rhetoric obviously didn’t sit well with Georgia voters.

But Tuesday’s results were likely to prompt more soul-searching among the political left, who are still looking for their first significant post-Trump election victory.”

President Trump aggressively pushed Handel’s candidacy on Twitter, setting up the election as “Hollywood vs. Georgia.” After last night’s GOP win, Republicans are now 4-0 in special elections to fill seats vacated by politicians joining the Trump administration.

Relishing last night’s win, President Trump congratulated Handel, telling her how proud he is of her successful effort.

Millionaire developer Ralph Norman won last night in South Carolina’s special election to replace Representative Mick Mulvaney, who became President Trump’s budget director, keeping that seat in the GOP column.

Despite the big money from California that backed Ossoff, Handel clearly benefited from a strong grassroots organization that got out the vote yesterday.

An estimated $50 million was spent on the election by both parties, with Ossoff raising $24 million in individual donations, of which only 3.5% came from Georgia.

As was seen with last November’s presidential election, Hollywood celebrities likely did more harm than good for Democrats with their extreme rhetoric and hysterical whining.
