Any intelligent citizen would think that a major component of a free society is government transparency. After all, we should be able to know what laws affect us and what our government officials are up to. But, the state of Georgia disagrees.
After Carl Malamud, owner of the site Public.Resource.org, uploaded an annotated version of Georgia law to his site, the state went at great lengths to silence him and make sure that he was no longer showing the public the laws that they are supposed to obey.
What exactly did Georgia do to try and silence him?

Every lawyer, judge and lawgiver is going to get a trial for treason, after the Cons$#%&!@*utional Revival.
Malamud is completely within his rights. This frivolous lawsuit is clearly a punitive measure in an attempt to silence Malamud and keep Georgia’s dirty little secrets secret. I’m really ashamed of my state for this. Ashamed and sickened.
At least this much is true:
I’m so sick of sites like this that serve only as clickbait. Sure, the content is there, scalped from another site, but you can only access it after 2 clicks and seeing 20 ads. Bu-bye now.
Their laws, just like every other State, are already on the internet: http://law.justia.com/codes/georgia/2014/
The question becomes “who allowed Lexis Nexis to become the sole resource when accessing the law?”
Georgia obviously has a contract with them, and will be on the hook for millions in damages if Malmuds website is allowed to (rightly) publish the “copyrighted” information.
Too bad Georgia.
You privatized the law, for profit, and now you’ll reap what you’ve sown.
Apparently there’s a “cliffs notes” version that the Georgia courts actually use when rendering decisions, which contains more information than the original; that is what they’re referring to here.
They just make them up as they go
Ignorance of the law no excuse is a myth created by the law enterprise. If it were an actual case everybody would be lawyers. With more laws than there are people these days ignorance of the law should be a defense.
Cannot view Laws, Than they cannot charge you. That would be a secret court.
It’s time you citizens of Georgia stood together and vote those idiots out! Get that law changed! Take your state back!!!!!!!
