Flood of Illegals Placed into U.S. Homes

81,000 Illegal Minors Eligible for Benefits

The flood minors coming in to the country illegally shows no sign of stopping.  In addition, U.S. government agencies are actively finding accommodations for these minors to live throughout the United States, and taxpayers are finding themselves on the hook for much of their support.

The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), which is part of HHS, has placed children in every state in the U.S., including the District of Columbia. States with the highest numbers of unaccompanied minors over the past two years include California (9,587), Florida (8,330), Georgia (3,075), Maryland (5,668), New Jersey (4,120), New York (8,570), North Carolina (2,897), Texas (10,618), and Virginia (5,563).

“When a child who is not accompanied by a parent or legal guardian is apprehended by immigration authorities, the child is transferred to the care and custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR),” HHS explains. “Federal law requires that ORR feed, shelter, and provide medical care for unaccompanied children until it is able to release them to safe settings with sponsors (usually family members), while they await immigration proceedings. These sponsors live in many states.”

It is unclear that there is any credible plan to repatriate these minors to their families in their home countries, and placement throughout the country will make it increasingly difficult to find them should such a plan be developed. And all the while the financial burden on U.S. taxpayers will continue to expand, while calls for legalizing their stay in the U.S. will grow. It has been said that a country can be a welfare state or have an open border policy, but not both. The U.S. seems to be willing to test the veracity of that truism.
